The hotel I’m staying at while I wait for my house to be finished is a couple blocks from what I think is the only comic store left in town. It’s a dungeon, and smells like bologna that’s been left in the sun for a couple days, but it’s also comics, and I haven’t been to a comics store in forever and there’s some things I want to get.
Plan: I will resist it for a few days then break down, hold my nose, and buy some comics.
And people wonder why more people don’t go to comic stores!
They only make me despair.
So Bank of America is going to be adding a $5 monthly fee to anyone who uses a debit card once in that month. Yyyyyyyeah. Man, I love me my credit union even more now.
So, like an idiot, as I read this, I scroll down to the comments on the article.
And, of course, it’s not long before someone posts how this is all the fault of… the Democrats!
How? Because the Democrats voted in a measure intended to limit the ways banks can dick people around like this.
See? If they’d been like the Republicans (no, really!) and just let big companies do Whatever They Want To, Bank of America wouldn’t be forced to find new ways of doing Whatever They Want To in order to take more of your money! Nothing could go wrong if we’d just let them do Whatever They Want To!

Again, no true “winner”, and a lot of contenders, for a lot of reasons. So I’ll just run down a list…
Elec Man, Crash Man, Top Man, Dive Man, Pharaoh Man, Charge Man, Star Man, Centaur Man, Tomahawk Man, Plant Man, Junk Man, Astro Man, Clown Man, Sword Man, Enker, Buster Rod G, Galaxy Man, Nitro Man, Strike Man, Sheep Man.
Oh eesh. That’s a hard one.
2 was, as with so many, the one that really drew me into the whole thing so long ago, and it’s really hard to find any fault with it. But it’s also the obvious answer, and I’m not sure that it’s really the true one.
I actually really like 8 a lot. The versatility of the weapons mixed with the bright, fluid animation, combined with the bosses having clear personalities that pop right out at you as you play just really make me go “this feels like how I’ve envisioned Mega Man pretty much always”. I do kinda wish the music wasn’t as soft as it was, though. And the voice acting wasn’t atrocious… but I can play with the game on mute.
X8 is about the only X series game I truly enjoyed, and it’s a very strong game… but the albatross of the prior 4 games’ angsathon hang heavy on it.
But I think Powered Up might be the one that I’ve just plain old enjoyed the most, even though it’s a remake. Again, I liked the cartoonyness, plus all of the bosses were CHARACTERS. The ability to play as all the bosses, with very different power sets, and then seeing how they interact with each other, is just probably the most plain-old fun I’ve had i the whole MM series. Plus the game had more than enough new stuff and fun surprises to make it stand out so much against that old game we’ve played a million times and know by heart.
Legends 2 ranks way up there, but it’s such a different experience from all the others it’s not even really fair to compare them.
