Any rate. Yeah, planned for the finale of To Boldly Flee.

There’s a lot to say about NC, even if I’m having a hard time coming up with the right words, though that’s largely sleep deprivation at work. While he wasn’t my first exposure to Channel Awesome, NC was the one to kick open the doors, shrieking like a madman on helium, and keep me coming back again and again.

And while Critic’s videos entertained me, I think what I’m most thankful for is the world that accumulated around the character. So many other producers whose work I greatly enjoy, some inspired by NC himself to go out there and have a go at it themselves. And that Doug, a damn funny man in his own right, seemed to delight in bringing in others and bouncing their characters against each other (but not in the way many fanfics do). 

He was the one to expose me to the likes of Obscurus Lupa, Nostalgia Chick, Todd in the Shadows, Spoony, Cinema Snob, Angry Joe and so many more… which led to a chain reaction which led to OanCitizen, Phelous, Diamanda Hagan, Film Brain, Rap Critic, and others as they crossed over and over. He brought me back around to people whose videos I’d seen before I’d seen NC and enjoyed, but hadn’t really been a repeat viewer for, like Linkara and Vangelus.

Nostalgia Critic built up a community, a broad group of friends, and it only seems to keep growing. It’s inspiring. I’ll admit, it’s something I’d love to be a part of even in a small way. And even if that’s not in the cards… it really was the NC that inspired me and Trent to knuckle down, get some puppets and do some stupid shit to throw out to the internet in the hopes of making people laugh.

So Doug… thank you.
